WINTER CHAMPIONSHIPS


After being discussed in multiple occasions and being finalized with the decision


of the EUSA Executive Committee, it is official that EUSA Goes Winter.


Representatives of CUS Venezia
and the European University
Sport Association (EUSA) were
holding meetings on various
occasions throughout the
year, having the main topic of
discussion, the opportunity
to put European Universities
Winter Championships on EUSA
sports event calendar.


On October 5th, at the meeting
in EUSA Office in Ljubljana,
CUS Venezia, represented by
the President Mr Massimo
Zanotto, the Vice-President Mr
Ivano Sambo, the Treasurer
Mr Franco Vianello Moro and
the member of the board Mr
Dario Bianchini, presented the
detailed proposal of Val di Zoldo
to host the 1st edition of the


European Universities Winter
Championships. The conclusions
and the report of the meeting
were then presented and
discussed during the Executive
Committee Meeting in Istanbul.

On November 9th, while EUSA
representatives had a working
visit in Venice, the engaged
parties agreed on an action plan
and scheduled a first Inspection
Visit in December, to evaluate
all logistic aspects.

Following the discussion
and decision of the EUSA
Executive Committee, the
organization of the first EUSA
European Universities Winter
Championships was officially
attributed to Val di Zoldo,
Dolomites. It was also confirmed

that the European Universities
Winter Championships will
include two sports: Alpine Skiing
and Snowboarding.

With becoming official, EUSA
representatives then visited this
Italian ski resort for a working
meeting on December 20-21,
2022.

The EUSA delegation led by
Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, Secretary
General and Mr Miha Zvan,
Sports Manager met with
the representatives of the
Organizing Committee, led by
Massimo Zanotto, President of
CUS Venezia, to discuss all the
organisational aspects of the
championships to be held the
Civetta ski area from December
18-21, 2023.

While this visit, EUSA was
also welcomed by the Mayor
of Val di Zoldo, Mr Camillo De
Pellegrin, who assured the
support of the local community
for organisation of the event.
EUSA representatives had a
working meeting with Technical
Delegate for Skiing, Mr Alberto
Pecere as well as an opportunity
to inspect the planned ski
courses for the competitions in
Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding.

EUSA thanks CUS Venezia for
this great initiative and the
contribution to the development
of University Sports, in
general and it’s looking
forward to organising the 1st
European Universities Winter
Championships.
