closely with the local Organising
Committee, their partners and
volunteers, they made sure that
the event runs smoothly and
without problems.


The event, which is already
the 12th edition of the
European Universities Rowing
Championship, was officially
opened with the Opening
Ceremony taking place on
Wednesday, 7 September
2022 in Istanbul at Yeditepe
University. The present athletes,
officials and other participants,
were welcomed by the Yeditepe
University Rector Ms Canan
Aykut Bingöl, the President
of the Turkish University
Sport Federation (TUSF) Mr


Mehmet Günay, the Head of
the Organising Committee Mr
Taner Karabulut, as well as by
Mr Adam Roczek President of
the European University Sports
Association (EUSA), wishing all
the teams and participants, best
of luck and great success.

The Opening ceremony also
included march pass of the
participants, as well as a special
programme, showcasing the
history and culture of the hosts.

During the European
Universities Championship in
Rowing, competitions took place
in several categories, for men
and women student athletes,
representing the European
universities where they study.
Besides the sport and the
competing, the athletes had

the chance to also enjoy other
educational and social activities,
where they can all hang out
together, among which was the
Ferry Boat Trip.

In the most prestigious race,
the eights, in men’s category,
the University of Lyon (FRA)
claimed the champions’ title
over Institute of Technology
(GER) and Charles University
(CZE). In the women’s eights
finals, Charles University
(CZE) secured the title of
the champions, reaching the
finish line ahead of Institute of
Technology (GER) and Leibniz
University of Hanover (GER).

At the final ranking of
universities, we have Leiden
University (NED) on the
first place, Kazimierz Wielki

University in Bydgoszcz (POL)
on the second place and
University of Vienna (AUT)
standing on the third position.

The next European Universities
Rowing Championship will be
hosted by the city of Bydgoszcz
in Poland, taking place from 7 to
10 September, 2023..
