EUSA Year Magazine 2022-2023

SOLIDARITY FUND – UKRAINE

The European University Sport Association was one of the

many organisations to recognise and encourage activities of

national university sports bodies, event organisers, universities

and individuals who carry out various campaigns and activities,

offering humanitarian support to the people in Ukraine affected

by the war, starting by showing and taking actions itself.

As EUSA works closely together

with its member associations,

offering possibilities of

financial support to members

in development, this time the

special focus was given to aid

participation for universities and

athletes from Ukraine. As one

of the first actions taken, which

strongly show condemnation

of the Russian invasion of

Ukraine and the supporting role

played by Belarus, EUSA mainly

decided to establish the EUSA

Solidarity Fund.

This Solidarity Fund was

dedicated exclusively to support

the National University Sports

Association of Ukraine. As an

organisation, EUSA contributed

with 20.000 EUR to the fund,

representing all funds reserved

for development support to its

members for 2022.

In continuation, at the European

Universities Games in Lodz,

we are happy and proud to

have been able to welcome

an extensive delegation

from Ukraine, counting 285

participants from 40 universities,

taking part in 16 sports. The

Opening Ceremony of the Games

in Atlas Arena also featured

the Ukrainian delegation in the

march pass, receiving standing

ovations from all spectators and

participants, showcasing support

and solidarity.

The participation of delegations

from Ukraine was enabled

because of cooperation and

support of the European

University Sports Association

(EUSA) and its members,

especially University Sports

Association of Poland (AZS);

the local organising committee

of the European Universities

Games (EUG2022), especially

Lodz University of Technology;

and the Sports Students’

Union of Ukraine (SSUU) who

coordinates university sport in

Ukraine.

EUSA devoted its annual

development fund solely to

the support of Ukraine and

expanding it to a special

solidarity fund, where also our

members and partners had a

chance to contribute. Together
