With gardens about to hit peak flower, now is the time
to get creative. You’ll find endless inspiration in Rowan
Blossom’s new book Living With Flowers: Blooms &
Bouquets for the Home (£19.99,
Laurence King). The fashionista-turned
florist guides you through her ‘recipes’
from simple sprigs in jam jars, rustic
kitchen displays and handtied bouquets,
to showstopper urns and dramatic tablescapes. We’re coveting
the boho crown for our go-to summer party look. As well as
beautiful photography, the book includes a handy kit list and guide
to prepping flowers for long-lasting seasonal displays. For a chance
to win yourself a copy, turn to page 92 in this issue of Your Home.

Cut a dash with dahlias
Dahlias are ideal for growing as cut flowers, providing a season-long
supply of colourful blooms from mid summer through to autumn. Ideally,
they should be cultivated from tubers in indoor pots from mid March
but you can plant them into borders in May – as long as the frosts have
finished. Sarah Raven’s pink and coral William Morris Collection will make
a stunning display from July to November. Available by mail order, the trio
of tubers are accompanied by thorough planting, spacing and cultivating
instructions. Here are Sarah’s tips for a bountiful crop:

l Tubers should be potted up when they arrive and kept in a light,
frost-free place until the frosts are over and then planted into the garden.
l They’re quite hungry so be sure to use ari ch compost and remember
to water regularly.
l If you grow a taller variety, you’ll need tost ake them.
l Once they’re flowering, either pick or deadhead them down to the
leaf to promote more flower formation.
