Our top tips and buys to keep
your home clean and organised

Here are our top tips on removing grime from your gadgets while
keeping them safe from harm

TV screens – Furniture polish and glass cleaner can damage the anti-reflective
coating that many TV screens have, so instead dust with a microfibre cloth,
dampening it a little if your screen has fingerprints. Remove the batteries from the
remote and clean around the buttons with compressed air. If there are sticky marks
on the buttons, use a solution of one part each of isopropyl alcohol and water,
and clean with a slightly dampened microfibre cloth.
Phones and tablets – Your phone or tablet is likely to have a fingerprint-
resistant coating which is easily damaged by abrasive cleaning, so gently clean
it with a non-textured microfibre cloth, very lightly dampened with distilled water.
Remove the cover and ensure everything is completely dry before replacing it.
Laptops and desktops – Unplug and turn off your laptop or desktop before
using compressed air to blast between the buttons of the keyboard to remove
debris. Clean the buttons with a slightly dampened microfibre cloth, or if they are
visibly dirty on your desktop keyboard, use a solution of one part each of isopropyl
alcohol and water. Use the same solution to slightly dampen a cloth and clean the
mouse all over. Clean the screen using a specific cleaner and a dry microfibre cloth.
Consoles and controllers – Dust your console with a dry microfibre cloth,
using a cotton bud to sweep over any crevices. Use the same isopropyl alcohol
solution as above to clean the controllers with a barely dampened microfibre cloth,
and cotton buds to clean around the buttons.
Earphones – Clean the earphones and wires with a slightly damp microfibre
cloth. If you have wireless EarPods or AirPods, then use a dry cloth instead.
Then take a small ball of sticky tack and use it to dab the earphone grille clean.

HOW TO... clean your tech

Can I use a wok on an induction hob?

Yes you can, but as with all pans you will
need to make sure it has an induction-
suitable base. As an induction hob just
heats the pan it is in contact with you
will need to choose a flat-bottomed wok,
rather than a rounded one, and the base
should be magnetised – look out for the
coil symbol on the base or the packaging.
Your wok should either be stainless steel
with a magnetised base, enamelled steel,
or cast iron.

Q&A

Laura’s choice
‘These new Elasti-Fit bin liners from Bacofoil fasten neatly onto your
bin, ensuring they don’t slip down. The seam is on the side, rather than
the bottom, to prevent the bag splitting
when full and, if that wasn’t enough
of a selling point, they’re triple layer
thickness to prevent spills. We’re sold!’
