wasn’t so keen on using paint.
‘In the end, it was Maddie who suggested
we use removable, stick-on detailing. She’s
a keen artist and crafter, so is always coming
up with clever, creative ideas – including
recycling the offcuts of wallpaper to use
as panels on the dresser,’ smiles Kate.

STEP FOuROne item of furniture
Kate was happy to invest in was a new bed.
‘Maddie’s always wanted a double bed, so
when I found a discounted divan set for
£299 at Dreams, I snapped it up,’ she
recalls. Kate also splashed out on a smart
Roman blind, and a trip to IKEA resulted

in some

printed bed linen and a handmade rug.
Recycling, however, was again on the cards
when it came to the desk chair – now on
permanent loan from the kitchen. Maddie
is the first to admit it’s unlikely to be the
last project her new-look room sees – in
fact, she’s just added a set of home-made
pompom trim pillowcases. ‘I love being
able to put my stamp on what is now the
perfect room for relaxing, working and
getting creative.’YH

Customise plain linens
with a pretty pompom
trim, machine or hand
sewn in place – keep it
subtle and co-ordinated,
or choose contrasting
colours for added impact
