Download and print the Garden Toolbelt
Template from http://www.yourhomemagazine.
co.uk or send a stamped SAE to Your Home
June Garden Toolbelt Template, HBM UK,
The Tower, Phoenix Square, Colchester, Essex,
CO4 9HU. Use it to cut two large pieces from
the Bee fabric, and two pocket pieces from the
English Garden fabric.
2
Use the template to cut one large piece and
one pocket piece from fusible heavyweight
interfacing. Use a warm iron to apply each
piece of interfacing to the wrong side of one of
your fabric pieces, following the manufacturer’s
instructions.
3
Place the two large fabric pieces together
with right sides facing out. Cut a 40cm
length of green bias binding tape and
open out one of the folded edges. Position and
pin it along the top straight edge of the fabric
pieces, as pictured. Work a straight machine
stitch along the open fold of the bias tape to
secure it to the fabric, then wrap the rest of
the bias tape round to the back of the fabric,
enclosing the raw edge within. Pin, then hand
stitch the edge of the tape down to secure it.
4
Cut another 40cm length of bias binding
tape and repeat the step above using the
two pocket pieces, placing them together
with right sides facing out and concealing the
raw straight edge at the top of the pocket
within the bias tape.
5
Lay the large fabric piece down with the
front side facing up. Position the pocket
piece on top, again with the front side
facing up, aligning the curved button edges

Keep your garden tools handy with this sturdy belt
of both. Measure and lightly mark the middle
of the pocket. Cut a 30cm length of bias tape,
then fold it in half lengthways. Place it down
the centre of the pocket and pin into position,
tucking the raw edge of the tape down inside
the pocket. Machine top stitch a line 2mm in
from each edge of the bias tape to secure it into
position, hold the layers of fabric together and
divide the pocket into two.
6
Pin and stitch a length of bias tape around
the curved edge of the work as in step 3,
joining the layers of fabric together and
concealing the raw edges inside the tape.
Fold the raw edges of the tape to the wrong
side by 1cm to keep them hidden.
7
Turn the work over so the back is facing
upwards. Fold the straight top edge of the
work down to form a channel that’s wide
enough to hold your hessian strapping and pin
into position. Work a tacking stitch across the
straight edge to hold it in place, then turn the
work over so the front is facing upwards. Work
a machine zig zag stitch across the front of the
toolbelt, using the tacked line for guidance.
Once finished, remove the tacking stitches.
8
Make a strap. Cut a length of hessian
strapping to fit your waist comfortably,
making sure to add extra length to
this measurement to allow for stitching and
adjustments. Pull the strap through the channel
you stitched in step 7, then stitch either side of
a clip fastening to the ends of the strap to finish.
