omething that Sarah can’t quite
put her finger on drew her to this
period villa tucked away from the
road. ‘I must have looked at about 30
houses before I first viewed this place,’
she reveals. ‘I wanted something in the
old quarter of Birmingham which is full of
Edwardian and Victorian homes.
‘I looked at lots of lovely places but I
knew that when I found the right property
it would have the right feel about it. And,
as soon as I walked up to this front door, I

knew this was going to be the one.’
Sarah was looking for a detached house
with parking and a spacious garden, a
combination that is not easy to find in
the area she was house hunting in. But in
the end, although this property ticked all
the boxes, she says that it was more about
the feel of the place than it meeting any
checklist. ‘Cosmetically, there was a lot to
overlook. It was stuck in the 1950s with
flowery wallpaper and patterned carpet
everywhere and a very dated kitchen, but
