‘It’s important for me to get the
background right – the walls, flooring and
main pieces of furniture – because they
are expensive to change, but then I love
rearranging the accessories to keep the
house looking fresh and current without
too much extra investment.’
Sarah has the house exactly as she
envisaged it now. ‘I will always be tweaking
bits here and there, and adapting the
children’s bedrooms to grow with them,’
she concludes. ‘But all the major work is
done and we love it.’

The bedstead and tables, both from Winsor, add a touch of
glamour to the master bedroom. ‘I wanted to add interest
to one wall in my bedroom so I chose a simple striped
wallpaper to give the room a calm feel,’ says Sarah. The
wallpaper is Stripe by Cole & Son; the peacock cushion and
