DIVIDING ODD WIDTHS
Say you have a board that’s 11-3/8 in. wide and you
need to divide it into four equal parts. No problem.
Angle your tape across the board until it reads a
number easily divisible by four, such as 16. Then, with
the tape angled, make marks at 4, 8 and 12 in.

SAWHORSES
Most of my sawhorses see
rough use. If they get beat
up, it doesn’t matter. But I
have a few that I use for
assembling projects, so I
stapled carpet scraps to
them to provide a non-
marring surface.

Filler for big planters
Add empty cans and broken clay pots to a deep
planter to cut down on the amount of soil you’ll need
to fill it. The cans and pots also improve drainage and
aeration.
