Southwest Art – August 2019

Carolyn Lindsey

Carolyn Lindsey, a residence of Cuervo New Mexico, creates
paintings in oil using the people and places in the area as
subject matter. Painting from life, she feels is paramount in
the understanding and use of color. The point at which you
leave the subject matter and allow the painting to dictate its
own ending is important in completing a successful original
work of art. Creating art is a continual process of learning,
with many ways to achieve success. See more of her work at

J. WAID GRIFFIN

“The true aim of my life fi nds realization in my art. I cannot completely understand or explain what fascinates me, but certain things just
hold a wonderment. It is about the way aesthetics binds spirit and objects. There is an element in art that super-cedes the mere physical
senses.” Represented in the Albuquerque Arts Showcase, August 16th - 19th, 2019, Albuquerque Convention Center.
cSilverthorne Ponds, oil on canvas panel, 12 x 16.

Richard Prather
I work in a representational style but endeavor to capture the
essence of the subject rather than just copying what Nature
provides. I seek to edit and simplify a scene to express what
it was about the scene that captured my attention. I tend to
search for my subject matter in remote locations where the
infl uence of man is limited. It’s been my love of the outdoors
that from an early age has infl uenced my life’s path. I currently
live in Placitas, New Mexico with my wife Sharla and our dog
Louie. Representation: Masterpiece Gallery, Santa Fe, NM;
Karen Wray Gallery, Los Alamos, NM; Marta Stafford Fine Art,
Marble Falls, TX. cAbove It All, oil, 24 x 36.
