workisrepresentationalbutpainterly,with
splashesand flecksofpaint.Often,I take
theitemsI paintandplacetheminanatmo-
spheric background, givingthe impression
thattheobjectsareinmotion.
Howdidyoufirstgetinterestedinart?My
parentsnoticedI wasalwaysdrawing,color-
ing,andpaintinganddecidedtogetmeinto
artlessonswhenI was 10 yearsold.

elor’sdegreeinartfromWestminsterCol-
legeinSaltLakeCity.AfterthatI studiedart
attheUniversityofUtahandtheninterned
withandassistedpainterDavidDornan.
Whatisyourcreativeprocesslike?I ap-
proacheachcanvasasanexpressionofmy
experiencewithmobility.Mytechnique
varies depending on subject matter—
sometimesit is loose,splashingpaintacross
thepiece,ortightwhenconstructinga mo-
mentintime.
Whathavebeensomeofthehighlightsof
yourcareer?TheFacesofHelperprojectI
created.I liveinHelper,UT,a historicmin-
ingandrailroadtown.I hearda fewofthe
personalhistoriesofourresidentsandde-
cidedtodigitallyrecordthesehistoriesand
paintportraitsoftheindividualswhowere
givingthem.
