How wouldyou describe your style?
A Utahart historianlabeled me a neo-
regionalist,onewhodrawsupontheir
agrarianupbringingforinspiration.Mystyle
is impressionisticrealism.
Wheredidyoustudyart?Myfirststudies
werethrougha correspondence course in
commercialartandata communitycollege,
whichledtoan18-yearcareerin graphicsand
illustration.I learnedtopaint throughthe
tutelageoftwoofUtah’sfinestartists,Ken
BaxterandKathrynStats.
Whatisyourcreativeprocesslike?Myfig-
urativeworkis usuallydesignedinmymind,
thenI recruitthemodelsanddoa drawing
witha brushinthinpaint.Lesscomplicated
piecesI doallaprima.
Whathavebeensomeofthehighlights
ofyourcareer?Thehundredsofpaintings
that people fromaround the world have
purchasedis mygreatestcompliment.I did
commissionedworkfora governorofUtah
and was the recipient of the Governor’s
Mansion Art Medallion. Oneofmy paint-
ingswasgiventoGeorgeandBarbaraBush
fromtheirfriendasa housewarminggift.A
numberofmuseumshavemyworksintheir
collections.
Whenyou’renotcreatingart,whatelse
doyouenjoydoing?Gardeningandfly fish-
ingaremyhobbies,andspendingtimewith
myfamilyis myblessing.
