4) Using the computer mouse, drag
the top layer (Layer 1) under the
Background copy layer. Now you will see
that the Background copy layer is at the
top of the layers panel (Printscreen 3).

5) Select the Background copy layer
and add a Layer Mask (Click on the
square with the circle at the bottom of
the Layers panel) (Printscreen 4).

6) Select the sky using either the Magic
Wand Tool or the Quick Selection
Tool. The sky will be selected but if you
watch carefully, the sky seen through
the trees may not be selected. This can
cause a problem later on. Hence we
need to select the remaining sky area

visible through the trees.
This would be a lesson in
frustration if you tried to
individually select the remaining
areas. Hence go to ‘Select’ and
click on ‘Similar’ (Printscreen 6).
Now the remaining sky, as well as
those areas of similar tones that you
did not want to select, will also be
selected (Printscreen 7).

7) So how do we get rid of those
inadvertantly selected areas? Select
the Lasso Tool from the Toolbox
and keeping the Alt key pressed,
draw a rough selection around the
areas that you want to deselect
(Printscreen 8, opp. page). As you
let go of the computer mouse, you’ll
see that area deselected. Continue
doing so till all the areas that were
