HOW JONATHAN AND DREW
MADE THEIR MILLIONS
BOOKS
They published Dream Home in 2016,
It Takes Two in 2017, Builder Brothers:
Big Plans in 2018 — and have announced
plans to release Builder Brothers:
Better Together this fall.
Property Brothers] we’d been doing real
estate, but I missed my passion, acting.
So I went to Vancouver to pursue that,
and I was taking acting courses,
networking and doing all the things I
had to do to make sure that I was being
seen,” said Drew, who soon racked up
more than $100,000 in debt and got the
wake-up call he needed. “I [quickly]
realized how any reckless decision you
make can leave you vulnerable.”
Jonathan also found his bank
account in ruins as he chased his dream
of becoming a famous magician — and
was eventually forced to file for
bankruptcy. “It was an incredibly low
moment in their lives. They both felt as
if they’d hit rock bottom,” spills the
insider, adding that even though they’re
now hugely successful — the reno bros
made more than $500 million in 2018
alone, thanks to multiple ventures (see
sidebar) — they’ve never fully
overcome that trauma. Especially
Drew: “He still has an irrational fear in
the back of his mind that he’ll somehow
end up back in that situation. It’s one of
the reasons he works so hard.”
But the siblings agree that all the
hardships they’ve endured have led
them to where they are today. “I
think it’s important for people to
realize that failure is part of success,”
explained Jonathan, teasing that he
and Drew have a few more “exciting
projects on the horizon,” business-
wise. “It could be more books, more
shows or even a Property Brothers
TV network, similar to Joanna and
Chip Gaines,” speculates the insider.
“The sky’s the limit for them!’
Regardless of what their futures
hold, the brothers insist they’ll never
take one bit of it for granted. “We
didn’t come from a wealthy family or
anything like that. We had to work
hard for every single penny,” shared
Drew, adding that he and Jonathan
hope their story can inspire others.
“[We want to] show people [that]
through the good times and bad times,
if you have a good support net and go
hard after your goals, you’ll achieve
them.” Mission accomplished.
BROTHERLY
LOVE
Working with family
can sometimes be
tough, but Jonathan
insists that he and
Drew are “the best
of friends.”
A GAME APP
Earlier this year, they debuted
Property Brothers Home Design,
an app that lets players demo,
renovate and design rooms — with
cartoon versions of themselves
guiding the process.
