What’s your ‘spirit age’? By that I mean the age

you feel, not your chronological age. It’s a topic

we’re looking at this month in our Secrets to a

Younger You (p16) feature. The writer, in one of her

tips, suggests channelling Helen Mirren and other

realistic role models, rather than someone such as

Madonna, who does her utmost to halt time. But I

disagree, as I think: why not look to Madonna for

inspiration? I am a lifelong fan though so am biased. I’ve

just listened to her new album (and loved it; I have them all).

She’s 61 in August, still making incredible music and looks great.

A lot of people think she ought to ‘act her age’ but why should we

succumb to what society thinks we ought to do because of how

many birthdays we’ve had? I want to be a funky, pink-haired yoga

instructor living in Ibiza when I’m in my 80s, dancing in clubs and

having a second youth!

Speaking of Madonna, her iconic song Holiday links nicely to our

special section all about healthy retreats and getaways (p53), designed to

rejuvenate you from head to toe. Just reading it made me long to be at

the Japanese hotel where bathing is an art form, relaxing in the healing

waters, and the Ibiza dance retreat also sounded right up my street!

I also felt inspired by our writer who attended a transformational

women-only retreat near Glastonbury (p65) where she found the space to

strip away layers of guilt and sorrow to  nd a freedom and lightness not

experienced in years. Whatever plans you have this summer, stop now

and again to appreciate the moment, as time is so  eeting.
