your ideal holiday...

You are ‘travel curious’
Travel curious folk are driven by a desire to
explore. You like to take the path less trodden
and take a few risks along the way. This, in turn,
means you are highly driven by dopamine, your
reward hormone, which you get in abundance from
keeping busy and trying new things. However, be
careful not to go to the extreme. People who are
too driven by new experiences can become
hooked and develop an uncontrollable urge to
travel, known as dromomania, which is basically
extreme wanderlust.

Holiday tips for the travel curious
When booking your next break, keep your
dopamine levels topped up as you usually would
by choosing more unusual and less touristy
destinations with plenty of activities on offer.
However, to ensure your holiday doesn’t lose its
novelty too quickly and leave you craving more,
allow some time in your schedule to take things a
little more slowly. Ride the local train to soak up
the culture but choose one that takes a longer
route or stops at more stations and give yourself
time to take in the sights. In between your daily
activities, take time to wander slowly and aimlessly.
Stay in the moment by, say, choosing a colour and
looking for as many things as you can in that hue.

You are ‘travel cautious’
Not to be mistaken for being boring, travel
cautious people are just as fun as the rest; you
simply prefer more traditional travel, opting for the
tried and tested routes and the places that come
highly recommended. You enjoy the process of
meticulously planning every detail of your trip so as
to avoid any unwanted surprises. You’re also more
likely to want to take things at an easy pace on your
holiday. However, tread too carefully and you’re in
danger of missing out on new experiences.

Holiday tips for the travel cautious
For your next trip it’s best to be prepared. Do your
research and always have a plan B up your sleeve

  • this is the only way you will relax and truly enjoy
your holiday. However, you can afford to dip your
toe into something new from time to time. Why not
challenge yourself to try a new kind of food one
evening, or book onto that boat ride and get away
from the poolside, even if just for an afternoon.
You never know what you might unleash – you
could discover something new to enjoy. tS
