entirebodyworkandinbrightgreen,the
ideanowlooksperfect.Firstlyablack
basewasused,overlaidwithasilverand
bluecandy,givingadeepmetalliclook.
The‘Lumo’green(whichmuststandfor
luminous?)standsoutperfectly,makingit
astunningvision.
Usingaslightoff-whiteforthegraphics
provedtobetheicingonthecake,andas
youcanseefromtheresults,allthe
colourscomplimenteachotherperfectly.
Macahascleverlyusedtheiconicjagged
edgestripedesignandcombineditwith
smooth,flowingcurveswhichcomplement
eachotherperfectly.
Thoughthejaggedstripsmayhavebeen
Colin'sdreamtostartwith,I'mprettysure
theyturnedouttobeMaca’snightmareat
times.Asperusualthough,hehascreated
anotheroneofhismasterpieces,andone
whichIthinkstandsoutfromhisother
Prix.ComingfromScunthorpe,which
alwayshasbeenahotbedforcustom
Lambrettas,hewassoondrawnin,likeso
manyothersinfluencedbythelocalised
competitiontobuildsomethingdifferent
fromwhathasalreadybeenseenbefore.
WithahealthyobsessionfortheAdidas
brand,andmorenotablytheirSpezial
collection,forhimthiswastheperfect
themefromwhichtobasehisproject
around.Therewasnoquestionofitbeing
anythingotherthanaGrandPrix.
Knowinghow‘one-upmanship’isvery
prevalentinthatpartofthecountry,there
wasnevereventheslightestchanceofthe
engineremainingasthestandard 125 cc
capacityitoriginallycamein.Beinga
keenandexperiencedLambrettaowner,
Colintookonthetaskofdoingthebuild
himself.Thoughthepaintandenginehave
beenfarmedout,therestoftheworkhas
beenundertakenbyhimself.Oncehehad
completedthedrybuild,offitwentto
havethepaintlaiddown.
Darkvision
Theproblemofgettingascooterpainted
inScunthorpeisthatitusuallyendsupin
alongqueueastherearesomanyofthem
work,itbeingdifferenttothenorm.
Thoughittookawhiletogetdone,with
Macaprobablycomplainingofnauseating
visions,Colinismorethanhappywith
theresult.Heshouldbe,becausethere
havebeenplentyofAdidas-based
customscootersinthepast,butthis
oneIthinkhasatotallyrefreshingand
newlookaboutit.
Powerstruggle
Withtherestofthescooternowsetupin
top-notchpaintwork,theenginewas
alwaysgoingtobesomethingspecial.
Afterall,ifyouturnupinScunthorpewith
anewcustomLambretta(regardlessof
howgooditlooks)ithastohaveabig
enginetomatch!Thatjobwastrustedto
DarrellTaylor,whodidn’tdisappoint.
Asyoucanseebythespecification,it’s
beenwellworkedon,butIdon’tthinkit’s
overthetop.Colinintendstousethe
Lambrettaasmuchaspossibledaytoday,
sothoughhewantedittobefastandhave
wickedperformance,italsoneededsome
levelofreliabilitytoo,soitwassetupwith
ablendofboth.
