Having circulated the main field over
the course of Friday and Saturday,I’d
already picked out potential winners of
the ‘Campsite Custom’ award.With
these scooters in mind, on Saturday
afternoonIdeveloped the ‘narrowing
down’ stage of the decision by checking
to see if any of them had been entered
into the official rally custom show.
Having viewed the custom show I
discovered that two of the scooters I’d
had my eye on had been entered, which
left me withachoice of three. I
returned to the main field and finalised
my judgement. The choice was close,
but SimonTipper’sstunning Lambretta
Street-Racer won me over.
Simon explained that he’d always
wantedastreet-racer.“Imoved up from
having an Indian GP200 and it was the
upgrade that I’d always wanted!”
Simon bought the scooter in April
2018 after seeing it advertised on social
media. “I bought it from Sean Pedelty
nthe condition that it’sinn ow,and I’m
grateful to him and the people involved
nthe build They’realot smarter than
me, the scooter looks terrific and the
performance is fantastic.Ihave to say
thank you to them all that I’m now able
to enjoy riding it!”
Simon described the performance as
beingabeautiful bike to ride. “It’s
quick, it’sresponsive and it’severything
you’d expect fromaquality street-racer.
tcruises at 80mph no problem and
the top speed is 90mph+!”
The only potential upgrade that Simon
sconsidering making is replacing the
current front disc brake withaCasa item.
that was going on, outside, event goers
moved from one themed marquee to
another.Meanwhile, the mobile catering
vans were busy and the mood around the
venue was cheerful.
Saturday scorcher!
Saturday morning broke andIemerged
from my tent to the sound of scooter
chatter; the smell of breakfast being
cooked; coffee being served; andageneral
sense of excitement about what was to
come from the day ahead. Having freshened
up, it was time to take advantage of the
unbroken sunshine and set off around the
rally site to check out what was going on.
By mid-morning the Dyno Shootout was set
up andacrowd had gathered around the
safety barriers to watch scooters being
tested by the dyno team under the watchful
eye of their owners.
Variety and activity
At the same time custom show
scooters started to form up outside the
main marquee next to the Dray, which
would later open its doors to deliver
the custom show.Outside the Dray,
whilst rally goers enjoyedabeer and a
chat, they were treated toalive
acoustic performance withavariety of
Brit-Pop and scooter rally tunes. Just
after lunchtime around 200 scooters
and their riders formed up on the road
near to the main gate ready for the
rally ride-out. It was easy to see that
all the riders taking part were enjoying
the camaraderie of the event and, of
course, the beautiful weather.Having
watched the ride-out set off and having
completed another circuit of the main
field, it was time to grababite to eat
before havingalook round the custom
show. The latter was then judged and
the final scooters on the Dyno
Shootout were making their last-
minute challenge for the top speed
title award. Dave Porter announced the
