ACOUSTIC TONE - PT1
you’ve ever gigged with an acoustic guitar, you’ll be familiar with how disap-
pointing your “plugged-in” tone can be. Your guitar sounds warm and full bod-
ied acoustically, but the sound coming back at you through the monitors is anything
but. Does this list sound familiar?
a) The tone is brittle, thin and “honky”
b) Loud notes are suddenly extremely loud, while quiet ones vanish
completely
c) The sound is too “up front” and dry, but the reverb coming from the desk is
too bright and washy.
These problems are inherent to almost any under-saddle pickup design. It’s actually a
pretty terrible way to amplify an acoustic guitar, but given the alternative (setting up
condenser microphones on a live stage) is completely unworkable it’s about the best »
