Common Emerald Dove
Binomial Name: Chalcophaps indica
The Common Emerald Dove is a common resident bird of Bangladesh. Once seen all overthe country, but now it is difficult to see as before. Recently seen in the forests of Chittagong,
Dhaka, Khulna, Rajshahi, and Sylhet divisions. However, it is more likely to be seen in theSundarban. They usually roam alone or in pairs and walk on the ground to eat. The food
list includes fallen fruits, seeds, grains, and termites. Their breeding season is throughoutthe year. They lay their eggs in seedlings, bamboo orchards, or bushes by making nests
with tree branches and leaves.
