Curlew Sandpiper
Binomial Name: Calidris ferruginea
The Curlew Sandpiper is a common migratory bird in Bangladesh. They migrate from NorthAsia to South and Southeast Asia before the onset of winter. They take shelter on the
beaches or estuaries of the coastal areas of all the divisions, including the Sundarbans. They are calm in nature—thousands of birds in each flock, but there is no conflict with
anyone. They usually roam the coastal swamps in large mixed flocks with other smallaquatic birds. They collect food by walking or running in shallow water and dipping their
lips in soft mud. The diet includes earthworms or other small invertebrates. During the
June-July breeding season, they lay their eggs near water bodies in northern Siberia andnest in rocky tundra areas.
