(Foridi Numan) #1

Shikra
Binomial Name: Accipiter badius
The Shikra is a common resident bird of Bangladesh. They are found in villages and openforests in all divisions of Bangladesh, but the Sundarbans are probably the most numerous.
Like other birds of prey, they are also violent in nature. It usually hunts alone but can alsobe seen in pairs. They look for prey by sitting quietly on the branches of trees in forests,
farmlands or near water bodies, and when they find prey, they grab and eat the prey. Foodincludes small birds, small mammals, fish, lizards, rodents, frogs, insects, etc. April to May
is their breeding season. Green leaves, grass, and tree roots are spread on the leafy
branches of trees and make messy nests like small platforms to lay eggs and hatch. Eggsare laid in the same nest year after year if there is no security threat.
