Black-crowned Night Heron
Binomial Name: Nycticorax nycticorax
The Black-crowned Night Heron is common in the list of birds of Bangladesh; this nocturnal
bird is only seen a little now. Ponds, small rivers, canals, swampland, lakes, swamps,mangrove forests, and agricultural lands, especially paddy fields, are their main habitats.
Standing a long time near water or on a branch above it, it eats by squeezing the prey withthe help of its beak. Frogs, fish, small mammals, snakes, small reptiles, small birds, aquatic
insects, and their larvae are their main food. Breeding time is April to May. They make
messy nests of tree branches, grass, and straw in Heron colonies.
