Black Bittern
Binomial Name: Dupetor flavicollis
The Black Bittern is a rare resident aquatic bird of Bangladesh. Found in swampland ormangrove forests of Chittagong, Dhaka, Khulna, and Sylhet divisions. Reed, aquatic grass
forest is their great choice. They usually hunt alone or in pairs, regularly, at dawn and dusk,and even in the full moon's light. They search for food by walking or standing slowly. The
diet consists of fish, amphibians, and aquatic insects. Sometimes eats small birds or mice.The breeding period is from June to September. They lay their eggs in hollows or submerged
bamboo by making nests of sticks and weeds.
