Birds of the Sundarban

(Foridi Numan) #1

Black-naped Monarch
Binomial Name: Hypothymis azurea
The Black-naped Monarch is a common resident bird of Bangladesh, but this insect-huntingbird is rarely seen. They roam singly, in pairs, or in mixed flocks with other insectivorous
birds in almost all forests of all divisions. Although the bird is in the forest around people,it is not noticed because of its small size. They fly from one tree branch to another in search
of food. The food list includes butterflies, moths, and flying insects. During the breedingseason from March to August, they build nests of narrow grass, moss, and bark with
cobwebs on tree branches slightly above the ground.
