Rufous Woodpecker
Binomial Name: Micropternus
brachyurus


The Rufous Woodpecker is the commonresident bird of Bangladesh. It can be
seen almost everywhere in the country.It can be seen alone or in pairs in
mangrove-forest, moist deciduousforests, Shalban, bamboo forests, and
other gardens and localities. The bark ofthe tree collects food by turning it upside
down. The diet list includes ants, termites,
pupae, figs, and flower juices. During thebreeding season from April to May, they usually
build their nests by occupying ants' nests in treehollows.
