Common Hoopoe, Eurasian Hoopoe
Binomial Name: Upupa epops


People have known the Hoopoe bird since ancient times. It is involved in the culture ofdifferent eras of human civilization. In ancient Egypt, it was considered sacred. This bird
represented honesty in ancient Persia. In Europe, the bird was considered a 'thief'. It wasregarded as a death emblem in Estonia. The Hoopoe is the national bird of Israel. Both the
Bible and the Holy Quran refer to this bird. Surah Namal verse 20 refers to this. TheCommon Hoopoe is an uncommon resident bird of Bangladesh. In all parts of the country,
villages roam in open fields, forests, gardens, river banks, and arable lands alone or inpairs or groups of isolated birds. Collects food by inserting long lips into the ground. The
diet includes insects, pupae, crickets, locusts, grasshoppers, and caterpillars. During the
breeding season from April to June, they build their nests by collecting leaves, grass, fur,feathers, and debris from tree trunks or building cracks.
