Create beautifully detailed masterboards with
acrylic paint! by Melina Dahl

I

love making backgrounds! I also love playing with mediums and colours, making
them run, blend and create cool patterns and texture. For this project, I created a
big masterboard and just had some fun adding layers on layers. When making a
layered background it is important to use permanent paints and inks if you don ́t want
them to become reactivated when adding the next layer. Making a big background
doesn ́t take that much longer than making a smaller one. It’s fun, and the best thing is
that you ́ll have enough backgrounds for several projects.
For this masterboard I used That ́s Crafty! stamps and stencils and DecoArt Media
products. I love working with the Fluid acrylics. They are vibrant and quite translucent,
perfect for layering. They work great for colouring in stamped images as well. Diluted
with water they look and feel like watercolours, but are permanent when dry.

Top Tool...
I ́m an impatient crafter.
Working with mixed media,
I could not do without my
heat gun. Watching paint dry
must be the most boring
thing in the world!
