Summer
Capture the spirit of a summer garden with
beautiful embossed butterflies! By Jane TyrrellI
n June, we usually feel the first heat of summer and Mother Nature starts to reveal
her bolder colours. I am always inspired by the seasons and my surroundings,
especially in my tiny garden. I chose a warm, but not hot colour palette to reflect
this in my card.
I like to create cards which tell a story. I chose to tell the story of summer butterflies
emerging from my garden foliage, ready for their very short, fragile life span. By using
blends of Distress Oxides and inks I was able to create the summery background to
set my scene. The cracked glass stamp I used also gave me a physical point on the
card for one of the butterflies to emerge from. By cutting into the centre of that image, I
could also tuck part of the wing inside to give some extra depth.
Using different mixed media also added extra interest and texture to my “Fragile
summer” card.Designer

The butterflies need
adequate drying time and
are best left to dry overnight.
They will then be fully
hardened and not
