Create a wonderfully eccentric clock from MDF
cubes! By Helen Chilton

I

’m using three relatively new products for this project: new PaperArtsy Hot Pick
stamps, That’s Crafty! Artist Trading Blocks and Jane Davenport’s ColorSticks. I
always love the Hot Picks stamps and these are no exception. The images are a
good size with great detail and there’s also some text (always a bonus). The theme is
clocks so I decided to make one! The ATBs (Artist Trading Blocks) come in two sizes,
4x4" and 3x3", and arrive in kit form. You can decorate them when they’re flat and then
put them together, or assemble first and stamp afterwards. I actually assembled them
bar one side so I had access to the inside of the block for inserting brads or nails, or
even the clock workings. I stuck the last side on at the very end.
The ColorSticks are fairly new and resemble lipstick, being as smooth and creamy as
one too. How they blend depends on the surface you are working on! I found that a thin
coat of paint on the MDF or card helped them blend really well. I also stamped with
them.

Designer
tip...
Check the size of the clock
hands before you buy them –
they need to be able to go right
round the clock face which
in this case is quite small.
I did snip off the end of
the second hand to
make it fit.
