Be Gentle Junk Journal

What exactly is a Junk Journal? Keeping
it simple, it is a handmade book that
serves as a diary, notebook, album,
keepsake, recipe book etc. It consists of
whatever’s at hand: recycled materials,
packaging, junk mail, spare craft supplies,
composition book pages, old book pages,
scrapbook papers or flea markets’ hauls.
Basically, it’s about creating it from
scratch by yourself and having lots of fun.
My journal is a made from scratch
handmade book. To build the cover, I
used special fabric, and I created delicate
layers using beautiful scrapbook papers
and lace. The layers make the cover
dynamic and tell you what you can expect
inside. All the pages are based on fabric
too, but a different kind to the cover.
Pages are sewed to make the journal
more interesting, and to break up the
blank fabric. I decided to decorate the
pastel AB Studio papers by adding metal
embellishments. Those make the project
much more expressive and exclusive.
Lace make the pages really light and soft.
I find it important to keep all the materials
and details in the same colour palette,
theme, embellishments etc. This keeps
the project harmonious and consistent.
