Craft Stamper – July 2019

(Barry) #1

I

adore the colour of the paper in the old books! Such a beautiful patina, resembling
the subtle tones of tea. What I also find fascinating are the fonts, especially in the
old books. The look of the “blackletter” gives a totally different feel than the “serif”.
What they have in common, though, is that they all spark ideas and joy!
While you can just enjoy the look of the book pages without knowing
the language they are written in, you get even more out of the
pages that are printed using your mother tongue or another
you can read. Because then you can be inspired also by the
words and do little poems or aphorisms using them.
In these five techniques I’ve created flat layers
with book paper. But these are only to spark your
imagination, like the book pages themselves, and get
you exploring more!

a newspaper from

the destination.

Especially if I don’t

speak the language,

the pages make great

backgrounds as the

words don’t distract

me from creating”

the text is upside down! Or
ask friends to send you
papers in a foreign
language!
