W
hen a transiting aspect occurs
between two outer planets,
quite often it will happen
several times over a period of months
or even years, and though we will feel
its effect each time the aspect is exact,
astrologers tend to consider the last
aspect in the series as the most effective
and the most noticeable. On January 31,
2019, the first of three sextile aspects
formed between Saturn and Neptune,
and a second occurred on June 18.
Next month, on November 8, the final
exact sextile will take place at 9:45
SP(67SP('7DWÛ
Capricorn/Pisces. This is an interesting
event, because if you asked a group of
astrologers which two planets were the
least compatible, Saturn and Neptune
would be right at the top of most lists.
This is not surprising, as Saturn can
be a dour planet, one that is focused
too much on the serious side of life,
spending so much time fussing about
facts and details that at his most
intense he can leave us melancholy
and withdrawn. Neptune tends to get
lost in a fantasy world that consists
only of her own imagination, and may
have little basis in what the rest of the
world considers reality. Neptune on her
own can, in other words, find it hard to
separate fact from fiction. The sextile
aspect is generally considered positive,
and it has a very calm and harmonious
vibration, just as an aspect like the
square is considered disharmonious.
In the case of two planets so different
from each other, the harmonious sextile
turns out to be an advantage as it tends
to bring out the energies of Saturn and
Neptune that are most complementary
with each other.
An Exchange of Gifts
When bound together by the sextile,
Saturn and Neptune will thus each give
to the other what it needs in order to be
more of a well-rounded planet than it
might be when acting alone. Neptune
energy will ease Saturn’s heavy load
of concern about getting everything
perfect and in its place, and allow him
to lighten up. Neptune can bring her
ability to look on the more positive side
of any situation to Saturn, showing how
easy it can be to see a glass of water
as half-full, as opposed to half-empty.
Neptune is not the only one to give
gifts in this exchange, however! Saturn
can help Neptune put her feet on solid
ground, and remind her that having
one’s head in the clouds is not always
the best way to live life. Walking along
with your mind soaring on Cloud Nine
while crossing a busy street might put
you in an emergency room...if you’re
lucky.
The sextile between Saturn and
Neptune is infused with additional
power, due to the fact that each planet
is transiting the sign it naturally rules,
as Capricorn and Pisces embody the
characteristics of their ruling planets.
Capricorn is the home of practical,
get-ahead, get-it-done energy. Pisces
has a very dreamy quality, and knows
instinctively that there are many roads
a person can take in life, each with an
allure all of its own. As one example of
how this works in terms of the sextile
of Saturn and Neptune, while factual
Saturn in its practical sign is making
a decision about how to “go-ahead to
get-ahead,” imaginative Neptune in its
visionary sign can inform Saturn of
how to make more creative choices.
