Q. I WANT TO TRY A BOLD
LIP, BUT I STRUGGLE TO FIND
A SHADE THAT SUITS MY SKIN
TONE. ANY TIPS?
A. We feel you – finding the
perfect lipstick shade can be tough,
especially with the number of
products on the market. But
a multitude of options also means
there really is a shade for everyone,
so let’s find yours.
Going back to basics is a good
place to start, so first we’ll determine
your skin’s undertone. Look at the
veins on your wrist – do they
appear more blue or green? If
they’re blue, you’ve got cool
undertones, which means you
should look for lipsticks with a blue
or purple base. If you’re getting
green, you’ve got warm
undertones, so orange or red-
based shades are best for you.
Perhaps they’re neither, or a
combination of the two, in which
case you’re likely to have neutral
undertones and can work with just
about any shade. Lucky you.
Now comes the fun part
- experimenting. YSL Beauty
Australia’s director of artistry, Ross
Andrewartha, suggests trying
before buying. Head to a store and
“play with three colours that you
like the look of and do an actual
wear test on your lips for a full day”,
he says. If time is of the essence, try
Maybelline’s just-released Color
Sensational Made For All range.
Each shade was tested on more
than 50 skin tones to create a
collection of purple, pink and red
matte- and satin-finish lipsticks – so
you’re guaranteed to find your
hero hue. E
