The 1.0-litrethree-cylinder petrol is an impressive engine,butitc an

feel abit strained in theestate. We’d choose the 134bhp 1.6 diesel,as

it feelswellmatched to the Sports Tourer andis pricedto appealto

privateand business driversalike. Of course, theSports Tourer needs

to offer alarge enough boot, and while 540 litres of space should be

easily enoughformost families, it doeslag behind theclass lead ers.

Foldingthe rear seats freesup1,630 litres of space,and it’s a

usefully shaped boot,too, with alow and flat loadinglip.The interioris

also spaciousenough,with plenty ofroom foradults in therear seats.

Our favouritetrim leve lisSRi Nav,whichgives youexcellent featur es

(includingVauxhall’s driverassistancepack), performanceand

fuel economy. It’s reassuringtoknowthe Astrahatch has afive- star
