The same is true inside, thankstoattractivematerialsand reminders

of Volvo’s Swedish heritage. There’splenty oftech as well,with ahuge

portraitscreen in thecentreofthe dashboard.Gadgetrydoesn’t getin

the wayofp racticality,though, andyou’llfind threerows of seats.

Youcould just aboutcontemplate pu ttingadults in the thirdrow –

not somethingthatcan besaid formanyseven-seatcars –and the

boot is ge nerouslysized, even in seven-seat guise, when ithas

451-litres of space.The rideis smooth,too, with littleroad,

wind or engine noiseto disturb passengers.

2.0-litreenginesmight seem smallfor abig SUV,but they deliver

respectable performance. Ourfavouriteisthe B5 diesel–itoffer sa

better mixofperformanceand economythanthe petrols,and it’s not

as priceyas the T8plug-inhybrid. Thelatter is surprisingly fast,too.

The XC90 is well equipped,with the infotainment system, LED

headlights,leather seats andapoweredtailgate allstandard, while

the longlistofs afety kithelpedearn afive- star Euro NCAPrating.
