Carbuyer Magazine – August 2019

With SUVsales stillstrong, itwas no surprise thatCitroenrepl aced its
ageingC5hatch with the C5 Aircross. It shares its underpinnings with
the Peugeot 3008 and fights an armyofr ival sinthe compact SUVclass.
It’s moreformulaic than the C3 Aircross, butthe front end neatly
integrates Citroen’slatest corporateface, andis go od lookingoverall,
although itlacksthe lo veable eccentricity of some otherCitroens.
There’s arguably moreflair in side, wherethe C5 Aircrosshas
a12.3-inchdigital displayand separateeight-inchinfotainment
screen, with Android Autoand Apple CarPlay acrossthe range.
Citroenmakesabigdealofi ts ‘advancedcomfor tseats’, but
we’renot entirelyconvinced; theycertainly lack supp ortwhen
cornering.Rather moredisappointingisthatthe much-vaun ted
ride quality brought aboutby Citroen’s ‘Progressive Hydraulic
Cushion’suspension technologysimply doesn’t materialise.
The near-50mpgcapab ility of thePureTech petrols will be
appreciate dbyprivat edrivers, while those whocoverlarge
mileages will find the BlueHDi 130 diesel appealing.
The rear seats aren’tas ge nerousonlegro om as yo umight hope, but
the C5 Aircrossiss till afiveseater, and onewith averysizeabl eboot,
so it’s morethanamatch formost rival swhen itcomestopracticality.

“The expectationwasthat theCitroen
C5 Aircro ss wouldexcelwhen it cameto
comfortand ride quality. Sadly,itd oesn’t”
