THE JeepRenegadeis asmall,urban-friendly SUV whose rivalsinclude

arangeof modelsfromthe Fiat 500X, whoseplatform and enginesit

shares,tothe Nissan Qashqai,RenaultKadjarandFordKuga.

It wasrecently updatedwith aset of smallerand moreefficient petrol

engines, includinga118bhp 1.0-litrepetrol,a148bhp 1.3 petrol,a

118bhp 1.6 diesel anda2.0-litredieselwith 138 or 168bhp.The most

powerful dieselis restrictedto moreexpensive versions, and there’s

ahugepricegap between thecheapest and most expensive versions.

TheRenegade’s boxy looksmight not appealto everyone,butthey

makeforgenerousspaceinside. In the front, there’sadecent amount

of shoulder and headroom, and thatgoes forthebackseat,too.

However, therear gives clear priorityto the twooutside seats

–the middleperchis really best suitedforchildren. Despite

thevastheadroom, kneeroomis no better than in anyrival.

There’splenty ofstoragein thecabin, withasmartphone holder on

thedashboard,additionalcubbies, some newcup-holdersand anextra

USB port. The bootis 351 litreswith the seats up and 1,297 litreswith

them down, although the area’s shapeis lessuseful thanyoumight

expect.Jeep doesofferafold-flat front seatforlongeritems, though.
