UP CLOSE

The instrumentation is derived from the
older Gixxers

We quite like the LED tail-light. It is
distinctive and pretty

The seat is a split unit and felt
comfortable through our ride

refined through this.
On the whole, the Gixxer SF 250
makes for a great little motorcycle
to make your transition to larger
displacements very seamless. We do
wish it retained the flickable nature of
its smaller sibling, but it’s something
that we are willing to look past. What we
like though is that the power delivery is
friendly and the handling is measured
and mature. And with a price that hovers
around the ` 1. 7 -lakh mark, it won’t make
dent in your bankroll either. If you are
looking for a no-nonsense motorcycle
that will do city and highway runs without
stress, then the Gixxer SF 250 might be
the answer to your prayers.

Yup! No difference in
instrumentation here either

WE SAY: THE GIXXER SF GETS
SOME UPDATES THAT IS
STRAIGHT OUT OF THE SF 250
DESIGN BOOK
Ashok George

1.10 lakh
(ex-showroom, Mumbai)

f you were to look at both
these motorcycles back to
back, you will find it very
hard to differentiate between
the two. You’ll have to look really close
to realise that the colour schemes are
different and so are some other bits and
bobs - such as the livery.
Under the skin, there are some
changes to chassis while the engine
remains more or less untouched. The
chassis is the same unit that is used in the
250 with the strengthened downtube. The
motor has been detuned ever so slightly,
keeping in mind emission norms that are
coming. The 155 cc mill makes 14 bhp and
14 Nm with a five-speed ’box delivering
this to the rear wheels.
To ride, the SF retains the quick-
turning nature of its predecessor as well
as the free-revving nature of its motor.
Unlike the 250 , the SF only gets single-
channel ABS.

I

Thanks to the difference of 16 kg
compared to the 250 , the SF feels more
flickable and that is a characteristic we
really missed on the bigger bike.
Overall, the SF looks like a much larger
motorcycle. It still behaves and handles
like the Gixxer we’ve all come to love. And
at ` 1. 09 lakh, it still makes for a fantastic
deal despite costing a little over ` 10 , 000
more than the outgoing model.
