ome July 9 , India will get its first long-range
electric vehicle in the Hyundai Kona EV.
To be locally assembled in India, Hyundai
has confirmed in its launch phase, it will be
sold in 16 cities across India. The company is expected
to bring in an initial round of 1,000 units at the time
of launch and will be offered with an optional AC
charger for home that can juice up the SUV to a 100 per
cent in 10 - 12 hours. Apart from that, select Hyundai
dealerships will also offer free fast charging points for
Kona EV owners. The Kona Electric also supports quick
charging, wherein the batteries can go from zero to 80
per cent charge in just 54 minutes using a 100 kW DC
fast charger.
In international markets, Kona is available in two
trims: Electric and Electric Lite. The Kona Electric gets

a 64 kWh lithium-ion battery with a claimed driving
range of 482 km on a single charge. Whereas, the Kona
Electric Lite comes packed with a 39. 2 kWh lithium-

single charge. Since this variant is expected to fetch a
lower price tag, Hyundai could most likely get the Kona
Electric Lite model to India.
The Kona Electric comes equipped with truckloads
of safety and convenience features such as six airbags,
a forward collision-avoidance assist, blind-spot
collision warning, rear-cross traffic collision warning,
lane keeping assist, driver attention warning, head-
