HYUNDAI VENUE
Once we got off the national highway, the surface
changed from smooth tarmac to dirt and mud and
some remnants of roads built a few seasons ago. The
Venue’s solid ride took ever y thing in its stride. None
of the passengers had any complaints even when I
pummelled through some of the rougher stuff. Neither
did the suspension make too much noise when dealing
with ever y thing. It’s strikes a great balance between
stiffness and pliancy, and is definitely one of the
best riding cars in the market today.

highway and headed towards Shillong.
The twisties on these roads were quite
something. If you thought the ghat
section in and around Lonavala were
the real deal, these roads will blow your
mind. The Venue held up pretty well
around the corners, both the long and
sharper ones. There’s a bit of lean, given
its stance, weight and height but it’s
much too little to make things hair y. I had
quite a bit of fun chucking the car around.
The steering is not the sharpest one around
but it matches up to the general standards in
the segment.
Getting into the resort on the outskirts of Shillong,
where Hy undai had organized lunch, we found the
place choc-a-bloc with Venues being commandeered
by other publications. As spacious as the property
was, with some 30 different journalists trying to get
a good angle or backdrop to take some shots, it was
very difficult to find an ideal setting. We crawled on
the main approach for quite some time, squeezed
into gaps created by some kind, accommodating soul
and managed to reach the foyer to snap off evidence
to establish that we had indeed been to the Ri Kynjai
