It has been a short stay for the
new Wagon R in our garage, but
whatever time spent, it has proved to be a far
more practical car than any of its predecessors.
It has been my companion for the most part of
my driving in the last four months – be it the
office commute, weekend drives to Pune, Nashik,
Valsad or road trip with the family to Satara. The
WagonR has managed to comfortably seat four
adults and a kid, along with their luggage,

thanks to the improved cabin space and a
bigger boot.
The new hatchback would also score highly
as far as driver delight is concerned. I especially
love the new 1.2-litre petrol motor that our car
comes with – it is peppy, sounds good and when
teamed with an AMT, the new WagonR 1.2
makes for a great city runabout.
I have some fond memories with this car, and
is definitely the small family hatch I would buy.

GOODBYE

TOPGEAR.COM → JULY 2019 91

The Apache has been with us for a
while now and for me, it has become
my personal transport for almost everything. And
in a nutshell, that’s what I like about it – it almost
does everything.
The most impressive thing is that it is a complaint-
free motorcycle. Through the several months that
we have had it for, the Apache has not once had any
problems. It starts up on the first crank every time
I’ve pushed the ignition button. Even if I’ve left it
standing for several weeks at a time, the bike never
sputters, not once.
In the city, it is the perfect runabout. It has enough
power to keep you going at a super-quick pace through
chaotic urban traffic. The tyres and brakes work well
and it returns almost 30 kpl despite being ridden hard.

The ride quality is great and the brakes never let you
down even when those pesky bicycle-borne kids jump out
at you every now and then.
But what makes it even more impressive is that for
a 160 , it doesn’t feel out of place out on the highways
either. I’ve done the Mumbai-Pune run a few times on it
and it never disappoints. It can cruise at 100 kph without
feeling all wheezy and out of breath. And most of all, it
doesn’t get you where you’re going feeling fatigued. And
that is a sign of a good motorcycle.
Overall, I have loved every single time that I have
ridden the Apache and, personally, I am sad to see it go.
What I do know is that if anybody is looking for a stress-
free motorcycle that is fun to ride and super reliable,
then the Apache makes a strong case for itself. Goodbye,
my friend!
