At this sta ge,steam gave wayto
diesel,inthe shape of Class 50Co-Co
D437/50037, one of whoselllustrious
plateswentunder SimonTurner’s
hammerfor£10,200.
Just belowthe five-figurelandmarkat
£9600 cameBlandford(SRWest Country
No.34107),whileLord Collingwoodfrom
anotherSouthern Railway locomotive,
Lord Nelson No.30862 ,fetched £8500
andCogan Hall(GWR No.5952) £7100. A
second hall,MostynHall(No.5985), went
for£5600, andHazeleyGrange,fromyet
another GWRrepresentat ive, No.6840,
for£5000.
Twonameplatesthatdid not sellwere
also GWRcontenders, and both from the
same class–ShirburnCastle(No.5030)

Simon, 58, who runsamedical lamp
businessand lives in theLeices tershire
village ofWoodhouse Eaves, has been
an enthusiastsincehis earlyteens,and
subsequentlytookupphotographyonce
he couldaffor danOlympus OM-1 system.
“SadlyIdidn’t have thatcamera whenI
waschasing Class52Westerns inthe1970s,
but Imanagedto capture the demiseoft he
Deltics and Class 40s,” he enthused.
OfJustacl ickago,hesaid:“Iwill be
graduallyworking on the style of the
websiteand making some alterations
to the online auctions.” Hisfirstauction
will open on November 18 and run
throughout thatweek.
Inavaledictorystatement, KazandTony
said:“We would liketoe xpres sour sincere

fortheir custom and loyalsupportover

Hunmanby. Itwasopenedby
the LNER in 1947,twoyears after
the Billy Butlin campwelcomed
its first holidaymakers,and the
stationcomprisedfour long
platforms capable of handling the
busy summertraffic.Passe ngers
were transferredto the camp
by aroad train usingasubway
beneath the nearbyA165.
As privatecars gradua lly
replaced trains,passenger
numbersat thestation declined –
ascenario being playedout across
the countr y–but the station
survived until July 1977, while the
camp itself closedin 1983.
