Feared Competition campaigner Tony Bellert ran on into the
night long after the group one final eliminations, and with
emptying grandstands won the bracket with 6.897/195.93.

One-shot qualifying made it tough for everyone in Pro Slammer, but for New
Zealand’s Trevor Smith it was extra tough, as he ended up ninth in an eight-car show.
His valiant 6.499 was nearly good enough, in a field which would often be all fives.
Wayne Newby had but one
representative pass during the
event, and it came in round one
with a 3.780/312.13. That pass was
against Phil Read’s 3.810/315.78,
which became the quickest Top
Fuel pairing in Australia. Newby
went on to win the event.
