For under $20, this camera is at the
basic end of the smart-cam spectrum,
however it boasts all the essential security
features that a household needs. The
Wyze Cam is an indoor–only camera with
1080p recording through a 110° lens. You
get motion and noise detection (with
notiĽcations), the sensitivity of which
can be tweaked.
The motion detection can’t detect faces
or people, so you will get false alerts from
rapid light changes or pets (there’s no
way to set zones). It also arms and
disarms itself automatically based on
location (so it won’t send alerts when
you’re at home), but you can easily
override that.
The app is easy to use and supports
multiple cameras. Recordings are 12
seconds long, triggered on detection

(motion or audio), and are saved for
14 days in the cloud for free (with end–to–
end encryption). You can also record to
MicroSD card.
The quality of recorded images is solid,
and there’s reasonable night vision. You
can also yell at intruders or talk to your
dog using the Wyze Cam’s two–way
communications.
The stand is sturdy enough, and the
camera pivots easily to point in any
direction. The base is magnetic, or there’s
an adhesive pad included. A mounting kit
is available for an extra $3.99.
Overall, this is a good security cam for a
really low price.
THE BOTTOM LINE. It may not be the
best smart camera out there, but for
the price it’s a truly astounding piece
of kit. MATT BOLTON
