MOMENT PRO CAMERA 3
Well–designed and easy to use
Adaptable for Moment’s hardware lenses
Full manual shooting available
Library management is a little basic
GREAT

Amongst the iOS pro
camera apps, there’s
been a shift towards
simpliĽcation of
operation. There’s a core of controls
that these kinds of apps give you:
controls that Apple does not allow
you to access through its own
Camera app, but which are
supported by the camera hardware
in recent iOS devices. Rather than
including things like Ľlters and
other trinkets, which pro shooters
have little use for, developers have
been making their apps feel more
slick and streamlined. And with
some feature Ľlms now being shot
on iPhones, it’s a good time to be
exploring what you can do with your
device’s powerful hardware.
Since the initial version 3 release,
Moment has had a number of point
updates that have added many
features, from tweaks to major

changes. One of the Ľrst was
small but signiĽcant — the
addition of a 3D Touch haptic
shutter control. So just like
on a real camera, you press
halfway on the onscreen
shutter button to focus, then
all the way down to take the
shot. Version 3.1 brought an
Apple Watch remote app
that can be used to start and
stop recording, and also as a
remote viewĽnder. It also had
support for Moment’s 2.40:1
Anamorphic hardware lens.
Siri shortcut support also
arrived, with quick access to
take a photo or shoot a video.
With version 3.5, the app
added cool video features like
multiple color proĽles for easier
grading in post–production, a real–
time audio waveform monitor, video
RGB histogram, conĽgurable video
bit rate settings, dual channel audio
meters, and an NTSC/PAL format
switch. All these greatly enhance
the app as a video capture tool.
RAW capture arrived with another
update — great news for pros who
want to capture maximum detail.
The developer also added burst mode
for JPG, HEIF and RAW formats for
better high–speed capture. Most
recently, focus peaking and zebra
stripes can be activated to display
exposure problems live on the
screen, and Ľnally focus peaking

is able to show you how accurate
your focus is.
These updates give greater control
over images during shooting and
post-processing. An excellent pro
alternative to Apple’s Camera app.
THE BOTTOM LINE. A slick and
powerful camera and video app, with
excellent features and user-friendly
design.HOLLIN JONES
