Saudi Aramco awards $18bn contracts for
Marjan and Berri redevelopment
Marjan and Berri oilfields are expected to increase production capacity by 550,000 barrels per

audi Aramco awarded 34 contracts
worth a combined $18bn for the
engineering, procurement and
construction of the Marjan and Berri incre-
ment programmes. The company plans to
boost the Marjan and Berri fields’ produc-
tion capacity by 550,000 barrels per day
of Arabian Crude Oil and 2.5bn standard
cubic feet a day (BSCFD) of gas.
“These two programmes will signifi-
cantly enhance Saudi Aramco’s oil produc-
tion and gas processing capabilities, both
strengthening our position as the leading
integrated energy supplier and meeting
growing long-term demand for petroleum,”
said Amin H. Nasser, president and CEO

It will enable Saudi Aramco to further
reduce the carbon intensity of our crude
oils, supporting our strategy of reducing
emissions while providing energy to those
who need it.”
Of more than 90 companies and
institutions that were invited to bid on the
packages, 16 were chosen in the fields of
engineering, supply and construction.
Saudi Aramco awarded Saipem two EPCI
contracts worth more than $3.5bn. The
first contract, for Berri field, involves the

installation of new process units to expand
the Abu Ali oil-gas separation plant on
Abu Ali island, around 50 km north of Ras
Tanura refinery, and the expansion of the
Khursaniyah gas treatment plant.
The second contract involves the con-
struction of a gas treatment unit for Mar-
jan field and another unit to recover acid
gases for sulphur production. The treat-
ment of acid gases will almost completely
eliminate the release of sulfur oxides into
the environment: more than 99.9% of the
gases will be recovered and CO2 emissions
into the atmosphere will comply with the
most stringent international standards.
