ELECTRIC BUSES IN GUWAHATI


A


ssam State Transport Corporation (ASTC)
announced that it will deploy 15 electric buses
in the city under the Central Government’s FAME
scheme. According to reports, testing of the buses
commenced on June 22. Each bus will seat about 31
passengers at a time. A total of three routes have
been planned for the buses. The first route will be
from Kachari to Kamakhya amounting to around 6.
km, second route from Paltan Bazaar to the airport
will cover 25 km and the third route including areas
like ISBT, Khanapara, Ganeshguri, Paltan Bazaar and
Maligaon will cover 38 km.

NATIONAL GAMES IN ARUNACHAL PRADESH

runachal Pradesh will be hosting the National
Games in 2024. Sports and Youth Affairs Minister,
Mama Natung, shared the State would also host the
Northeast Youth Festival (NEYF) in 2020 and Khelo
India Youth Games (KIYG) in 2022. ‘We will work on
the basic needs of infrastructure to host all the games
in the State, which the Centre is ready to fund,’ He also
stated that the major projects of building stadiums in
the State had been halted because of the change in
government. He informed that a team comprising
various government departments will be constituted
for monitoring the construction.

FALL ARMY WORM OUTBREAK


T


he Fall Army Worm (FAW) outbreak that left
a trail of destruction across the maize fields in
Mizoram, is decreasing, informed the Joint Director
of Agriculture Department, James Lalsiamliana.
Out of a total of 4,729 hectare of land where maize
is cultivated, a total of 3,016 hectare of land recorded
infestation by the State agriculture department
officials. The chance for recovery of the infested
crop depends upon the severity of damage, control
measures taken and application of fertilizers. The
first case of FAW incidence was identified at Nghasih
area near Lunglei town in April.
