Rugby World UK – August 2019

(Tuis.) #1

That’s the record number of World Cup tries
scored by New Zealand, who have topped
the pile in every tournament bar 1991, when
their tally of 19 was pipped by Scotland’s 20.
Almost a sixth (16%) of all the World Cup tries
ever scored have been notched by All Blacks.
The All Blacks hold a host of other records
and here are just a couple. They have the
most consecutive wins, currently standing
on 14, with their last defeat being the 2007
quarter-final in Cardiff. And they’ve scored a
try in their previous 26 RWC matches, their
last ‘failure’ being the 22-18 defeat in the
1999 third-place play-off when all their points
came from Andrew Mehrtens penalties.
